Dirk Nowitzki on Nerlens Noel: "He's an athletic big, he's young and he's got a lot of potential. He's a rim protector. He's long and he can finish around the rim. That's what I guess they were looking for. … A guy that can roll and really sucks the defense in helps all of us, not only myself. That's what our offense is, the big guy needs to roll and be a presence at the rim on both ends. If he's healthy, he can do that."

Carlisle declined to comment specifically about Nerlens Noel until the deal becomes official, but the question was essentially about whether a starting spot would be open for the Mavs' new addition.

Boston Celtics coach Brad Stevens as deadline approaches: "I've been [back in Boston] since Monday. I don't anticipate much change. I haven't ever anticipated much change. I don't think that, when you're in a position where you're playing at a pretty good level, you should anticipate much change. But certainly there could be small things. There may not be. At the end of the day my job is to try focus on the 15 guys who are here."

One holdup in the Minnesota talks for Derrick Rose has been that the Knicks hadn't budged on their insistence that a second piece be added to the deal in a return for Ricky Rubio - a player or a draft pick, according to a source. With one hour to go, it will be interesting to see if the Knicks lower their demands or if Minnesota acquiesces.
