Avery Johnson rejoins ESPN

Former Nets and Mavericks coach Avery Johnson is rejoining ESPN as a studio analyst, the company said Wednesday.

Johnson was most recently Brooklyn's coach but was let go 28 games into last season. His greatest coaching success came with the Mavs in 2004-08. Dallas won 60 games twice and went to the Finals in 2006, losing to the Heat in six games.

Between those coaching stints, Johnson was an ESPN studio analyst in 2008-10.

"I have a wealth of knowledge that I've accumulated in my 23 years in the NBA as a head coach and point guard, and I'm excited to share my insights with NBA fans," Johnson said in a statement. "I'm thrilled to rejoin ESPN and work with their talented team."

Johnson played 16 years in the league and was a point guard on the 1999 champion Spurs.
