Stein on futures of Cavs, Lakers and Knicks

ESPN NBA Insider Marc Stein talks about the trade market for Paul George, the Cavaliers' future, whether the Knicks will deal Kristaps Porzingis and Carmelo Anthony and more.

What the Knicks could lose

If New York ends up trading Kristaps Porzingis, it'll lose one of the most productive young players in the NBA.

The New York back pages today feature the same photo of Kristaps Porzingis. And the New York Post's headline questions Phil Jackson's claim the Knicks "know what we're doing."

Ramona Shelburne ESPN Senior Writer

One Knicks insider on the Porzingis situation: "Many of the people now screaming that Kristaps is untradeable are the same ones who were furious when we drafted him. Remember: Phil and our scouts were the only ones to properly recognize his potential. And there's no way that we'd trade him now unless we got someone we're even higher on in return."

Vote: How do you see draft night playing out?

Big decisions loom for several teams regarding prospects and current players as the NBA draft approaches. Now it's time for you to weigh in on the madness!

Ian Begley ESPN Staff Writer

The Knicks had dinner with Gonzaga PF/C Zach Collins on Tuesday night, per league sources. Collins, a 7-0, 230-pound freshman, is projected as a top-10 pick in the draft. He hit 67 percent of his 2-point attempts and 47 percent of his threes (though he didn't shoot many) last year at Gonzaga. The 19-year-old averaged 10 points and 6 rebounds in 17 minutes per game. The Knicks have the eighth pick. Phil Jackson has said that the club will likely select a guard or wing but the wildcard here is the Kristaps Porzingis trade talks, of course. It still seems likely that the Knicks end up taking a wing or a guard on Thursday but the Collins meeting is interesting.

ESPN Stats and Information

Kristaps Porzingis is coming off a season in which he averaged more PPG than LaMarcus Aldridge, more blocks per game than DeAndre Jordan, and more made 3's per game than Dirk Nowitzki. Only 6 players have ever averaged more PPG in a season in which they finished with 100 blocks and 100 made 3s. Keep in mind Porzingis is only 21 years old and still has room to grow.

Phil on KP offers: Will do what's best for team

Phil Jackson said the Knicks have not been intrigued by any offers so far for young star Kristaps Porzingis, but the team president added, "As much as we love this guy, we have to do what's good for our club."

Coley Harvey ESPN Staff Writer

First words Phil Jackson uttered when asked about Carmelo Anthony: "Here's a guy that's really special, a Hall of Fame player." Says he knows Knicks and league values him "highly."

To an uneasy Knicks Nation Phil Jackson says on MSG Network: "I think we know what we're doing. Although it's not been apparent in our record the past couple of years." He asks for patience, but is confident he'll have good talent and a good team this year.

Phil Jackson says on MSG Network tonight the Knicks are "listening" to calls but he hasn't been intrigued by any offers just yet. Jackson also expressed true surprise that Porzingis didn't show at his exit meeting. He adds he has reached out to Porzingis since the end of the season.

Phil Jackson reiterates that it may be time for Carmelo to find somewhere else to play. He said Carmelo has talked about staying in NY.

Phil Jackson on Kristaps: "As much as we love this guy, we have to do what's best for the club."

Phil Jackson says the Knicks have gotten calls on Kristaps Porzingis. Says they are listening.

Ian Begley ESPN Staff Writer

Yesterday, we reported that there had been no contact between Kristaps Porzingis and the Knicks since Porzingis skipped his exit meeting in April, per sources. That was incorrect. Team sources say there has been very minimal contact between members of the organization and Porzingis. "Not much at all," one team source said. I apologize for the error.

Phil Jackson will speak to MSG Networks - the network that broadcasts Knicks games - tonight ahead of the NBA Draft.
