The NBA's two-minute report states that Andre Drummond fouled Kristaps Porzingis before blocking his shot with 39 seconds to play last night and the Knicks down three. Officials didn't rule the play a foul, which the report states as an incorrect no-call because Drummond grabbed Porzingis arm. Porzingis should have been given two free throws. He said afterward that he felt he was fouled on the play. Had he made them, the Knicks would have trailed by one with 39 seconds to go in a game they once led by 21. The report also states that Tim Hardaway Jr. committed a defensive three seconds with 1:10 to play that was not called.

Stan Van Gundy, who is refreshingly honest with the media, candidly questioned the Knicks' coaching staff's defensive strategy late in New York's loss to Detroit. Tobias Harris and Reggie Jackson helped fuel Detroit's comeback with several pick and rolls down the stretch. "They both were going well and we were trying to go at (Porzingis)," Van Gundy told reporters. "(He) kills you at one end and for some reason they were playing him on Tobias, I don't know why, but they were, so we went at that pick-and-roll."

Tim Hardaway Jr. was asked if he just felt out of rhythm on Saturday when he missed 12 of 16 shots in a loss to Detroit: "Yeah I missed a couple of easy ones here and there, shots that I normally make. It's just tough to see those not go down," Hardaway Jr. said. "My teammates did a great job of just keeping me in it. Telling me to keep shooting. That's what I'm here for, just be a burst of energy and help out on the floor in any way I can. I didn't get it done tonight." The Knicks as a whole hit just eight of 30 3-point attempts. Jeff Hornacek said the Knicks need to be around 38 percent from three. He didn't place the blame on Hardaway Jr., who said he got the looks he wanted against Detroit. "Yeah. Transition shots, I just have to find ways. It's still a new offense but at the same time I still have to find ways to get to the line, get to the basket a little more, finish when I'm there. Missed a lot of bunnies today I wish I could take back and I definitely could have helped out on that end of the floor."

Jeff Hornacek said management has told him to play the players who do the most to earn their minutes and he's given playing time at center so far to Enes Kanter and Kyle O'Quinn over Willy Hernangomez. "Well, every summer that you come back it's a competition and guys, they earn their minutes through training camp and through exhibition season," Hornacek said Saturday when asked about Hernangomez. "Willy's done well, (it's) just something the other guys have done a little bit more. So the focus is on defense and that's one thing that we want him to get better at as a young player. We're trying to emphasize things to these guys that don't get repeated. All of the sudden, ‘Okay, I see, I understand,' and they fix it. And Willy's working on that. He's doing a great job. He comes to practice every day and practices hard. His opportunities will come." Steve Mills and Scott Perry both wrote that Hernangomez was part of the team's young core it hopes to develop, so it's a bit odd to see Hernangomez stuck to the bench. But Hornacek pointed out that those statements from Mills and Perry were made before the Kanter trade. "It's a tough spot," Hornacek said. "But that's when guys step up. I think Willy will too."

Kristaps Porzingis felt he was fouled on his drive to the basket with under a minute to play that ended in an Andre Drummond block. He said he felt someone pull his arm down before the block. The Knicks were down 3 with 37 seconds to play at the time of the block.

Pistons come from 21 down to beat Knicks

Tobias Harris scored 22 of his 31 points in the second half, and the Detroit Pistons erased a 21-point deficit to beat the New York Knicks 111-107 on Saturday night.

Pistons 111, Knicks 107: New York falls to 0-2 after letting a 21-point first-half lead slip away. Kristaps Porzingis was fantastic for much for the night, pouring in 33 points on 20 shots. He made just four of his final 13 attempts though. Tim Hardaway Jr. struggled with his shot, missing 12 of 16. Tough night for Jeff Hornacek's club, which gave away a winnable game.

Frank Ntilikina was asked if it's frustrating to miss the home opener due to a sprained ankle. "It is a little bit," the rookie guard said. "I want to be out there and play and get experience and just play basketball. But now I got to be strong mentally and do the best for my body and do the best I can do for my body and my career." Ntilikina's ankle sprain doesn't seem serious. He said it was feeling much better on Saturday, a little more than 24 hours after the sprain. He can run back and forth but has trouble moving laterally. He hopes to play on Tuesday against Boston. Ntilikina missed all Summer League games with a knee injury and sat out of New York's final four preseason games due to a separate knee ailment.
