Block party in NYC

Kristaps Porzingis blocked five shots and Joakim Noah blocked four in last Monday's loss to the Thunder. Sunday, Porzingis and Kyle O'Quinn each blocked four shots in a win over the Kings. Prior to those games, the Knicks had only two games total since 2000 where two players each blocked four shots. (Elias Sports Bureau)

After the Knicks' win over Sacramento, Derrick Rose offered the kind of perspective that the coaching staff probably appreciates. "We can't be content with where we're at," he said. The Knicks (11-9) haven't been two games over .500 this late in a season since 2012-13. But Rose, who had another strong night (20 points, 6 rebs, 6 assists), understandably says they're 'far away' from where they want to be.

Carmelo Anthony has no problem deferring to Derrick Rose, Brandon Jennings or Kristaps Porzingis: "That's a comfort level that we have to have.... If it's a stretch where Derrick has it going or Brandon tonight has it going, we put the ball in their hands. That's what they're here for and we play off of that."

Carmelo Anthony thinks the Knicks, who have eight players in their first year in NY, are starting to figure one another out after a slow start. The club has won 8 of 11 – the best record in the Eastern Conference over that span. "I think we're becoming more comfortable with one another and understanding each one of our abilities," Anthony said.

Joakim Noah on DeMarcus Cousins after the Knicks' win over Sacramento, which featured a few flare ups between the two big men: "Boogie's tough. No question. He acts like he's your friend one minute, then one minute he gets a tech. He's an emotional roller-coaster." Noah delivered that last line with a laugh and added that Cousins is one of the best centers in the NBA.

Knicks are in rarefied air (for them)

New York is 11-9 following Sunday night's win over Sacramento. The only other time that the Knicks have been two games over .500 since winning the Atlantic Division in 2012-13 was when they were 8-6 on Nov. 21, 2015.

Kyle O'Quinn on his recent offensive rebounding prowess (10 in the last two games): "You just wanna play. You'll do anything."

Jeff Hornacek, a baseball fan, says the Knicks' win against Sacramento was ugly but "it's a line drive in the scorebook, right?"

Knicks 106, Kings 98: New York nearly blew a 20-point third-quarter lead but hung on late thanks to a few big shots from Carmelo Anthony (20 points). Derrick Rose had another strong floor game (20 points on 16 shots). He and Brandon Jennings carried the Knicks for long stretches. The club is two games over .509 this late in the season for the first time since 2012-13.

Matt Barnes gets a "Derek Fisher! Derek Fisher!" chants from the fans at MSG. Tough crowd.

The Kings are playing Hack-a-Noah and it's worked. Joakim Noah has missed all four of his free throws, giving Sacramento a chance to eat into a 5-point lead. Fortunately for the Knicks and Noah, the Kings have come up empty on both trips, one of which ended with a Kristaps Porzingis block.

Carmelo Anthony hits a 3-pointer with three minutes to go to give the Knicks a much-needed 5-point cushion. Anthony's just 7-for-18 but has taken shots within the flow of the offense tonight, giving teammates like Derrick Rose (20 points) and Brandon Jennings (15 points) a chance to make an impact.

Cousins goes hard for acrobatic layup and-1 (0:20)

Ian Begley ESPN Staff Writer

Joakim Noah seems to be doing a pretty good job of getting into DeMarcus Cousins' head. They ended the last possession in a bit of a shoving match and will probably be whistled for double technicals.

The Kings ran off 16 unanswered points in the third quarter and Madison Square Garden is awfully quiet. Brandon Jennings may have stopped the free fall by drawing a foul on Willy Cauley-Stein on a 3-point attempt. He knocks down the free throws and then hits a jumper from the top of the key to give NY a 4-point cushion heading into the fourth.

Kristaps Porzingis hits Willie Cayley-Stein with a crossover and finishes with a running layup. Good luck finding another 7-3 player on the planet who can do that. NY was up 20 but has struggled to get stops - something Jeff Hornacek has harped on - which allowed Sacramento to cut the lead to 7.

Very strong half from Derrick Rose, who has 14 points on 7-for-8 shooting, helping the Knicks build a 14-point lead. Kristaps Porzingis' shot has been off (1-for-10). It will be interesting to see how he adjusts in the second half.

Willy Hernangomez is incredibly smooth in the post. He put Kosta Koufos in a blender, spinning on him in the post and finishing with his left hand. He has 4 points, 2 rebounds and three assists in 6 minutes. Have to give Phil Jackson credit for that draft pick and signing.

O'Quinn goes coast-to-coast for big one-handed dunk (0:25)

Ian Begley ESPN Staff Writer

Kyle O'Quinn goes coast to coast - blocks Demarcus Cousins on one end and finishes on the other end with a dunk. It's O'Quinn's world and we are just living in it at this point. Knicks have controlled this game for the most part. Up 13 midway through the second.
