Marcus Morris knows how to endear himself to a new fan base. During an introductory conference call on Wednesday, Morris said: "How could I be upset about going to the Boston Celtics? Paul Pierce has always been my favorite player." Morris said he has reached out to Pierce. "The first thing he said to me when we talked, he said I was gonna love it [in Boston]," said Morris. "That's all I needed to hear."

After seven seasons in Boston, Avery Bradley shows off his new digits in Detroit at a press conference Thursday. It's an odd sight given his long tenure in Boston.

The recent Reggie Bullock and Anthony Tolliver signing has the Pistons $3.5M below the luxury tax. Tolliver was signed using the bi-annual exception and Detroit will not have the BAE available next season. The Pistons are hard capped but 9.5 below the $125.2M tax apron.

While formally announcing the Avery Bradley/Marcus Morris trade, Danny Ainge with high praise for Bradley: "It's no secret that Avery had been one of my favorite players ... Avery did a lot of the dirty work and often didn't get the recognition that he deserved, but our coaches, staff, his teammates, and our fans who watched him play every night appreciated what a special player and person he is."

Sources: Pistons' Caldwell-Pope to become UFA

The Pistons are renouncing the rights to guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, turning him into the marketplace's No. 1 unrestricted free agent, league sources told ESPN.

Detroit was in an impossible situation when they became hard capped with the Langston Galloway contract and recent addition of Avery Bradley. The Pistons are now $8.5M below the tax and $14.5M below the hard cap. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is now an unrestricted free agent.

The Pistons are now $16.5M below the hard cap with the $8.8M Avery Bradley contract. If a team comes in with an offer sheet greater of $16.5M for restricted free agent Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Detroit would need to shed salary or not match. Avery Bradley is in the last year of his contract and can only be extended for a total of three years (including the current year) with a 5% raise off his 17-18 salary during the next 6 months. Bradley will command top dollar as a free agent in 2018.

With both Isaiah Thomas and Avery Bradley due big paydays next summer, the Celtics simply couldn't keep both. The Celtics will miss Bradley but have guard depth in Marcus Smart and Terry Rozier. Smart, a 2014 first-round pick, is now the longest-tenured player on Boston's roster.
