City of L.A. will celebrate 'Kobe Bryant Day'

The city of Los Angeles will honor Kobe Bryant on a day that commemorates the two jersey numbers the Lakers legend wore during his career: 8 and 24.

The Los Angeles Lakers formally announced Monday signing forward/center Yi Jianlian. ESPN's Marc Stein and Ramona Shelburne had previously reported that the Lakers had agreed to terms on a one-year deal in the $8 million range for the veteran forward, who has been out of the NBA since the 2011-12 season, when he played with the Dallas Mavericks. "We're excited to have a player of his worldwide accomplishments," Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak said in a release. "We look forward to bringing him to training camp and hopefully having him make an impact on our team."

The Los Angeles Lakers officially announced several personal moves Friday. First, Jud Buechler, Brian Keef, and Theo Robertson have joined the Lakers as player development coaches; Casey Owens has been named assistant coach/advance professional scout; and Will Scott has been named to the staff as video coordinator, the team announced in a press release. Buechler, Keef and Roberts will join associate head coach Brian Shaw and assistant coaches Jesse Mermuys and Mark Madsen on the staff of first-year Lakers head coach Luke Walton.
