Chandler Parsons fully participated in the Grizzlies' last two practices but has yet to be cleared for game action. "No problems at all with the knee," he told ESPN in a text message. Parsons hopes to play in Memphis' opener, but he understands that the Grizzlies will take a cautious approach in his return from the second surgery on his right knee in two years.

Memphis waived guard Chris Crawford and forward Vince Hunter earlier today. GM Chris Wallace later announced the team signed undrafted rookies C Matt Costello and G Kellen Dunham. The Grizzles roster remains at 20 players. NBA.com

Memphis coach David Fizdale told reporters that an MRI revealed a bone bruise in center Marc Gasol's right foot. Fizdale said the bone bruise is not in the navicular bone, which Gasol had surgically repaired after breaking last season. Fizdale expects Gasol to be "just fine" for the season opener.

It's going to take me a few months to get used to Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph taking (and making) so many 3-pointers.

The last time Houston played at Toyota Center, Oct. 4, the Rockets locked arms with the New York Knicks at midcourt as a sign of unity during the playing of the national anthem. The locking of arms was a sign of protest against police brutality against unarmed African-Americans. On Saturday, in the Rockets last home preseason game against Memphis, no such protest occurred. Each team stood near it's own bench at attention while the anthem played.

Chandler Parsons is pushing to be cleared to play, but the Grizzlies are preaching patience as their new $94 million forward rehabs from March knee surgery. "He's definitely making great progress," coach David Fizdale said. "He's doing a lot of drills with us right now where he's not hitting, per se. It's just very scripted, but he's moving full speed. Hopefully, it's in the near future, but we're not going to rush this process at all. I'd rather have him for 75 games than four and he's out. I don't know how that's going to go, but we're going to be really cautious." Parsons indicated that he was extremely encouraged after a workout before Thursday's game in which he sprinted, did slide drills, cut and shot.

Memphis coach David Fizdale wants Marc Gasol shooting four 3-pointers per game. "I'm getting used to getting comfortable out there, finding the 3-point line," said Gasol, who attempted only three 3s all last season and a total of 66 in eight NBA seasons. "Obviously, you play by feel. You want that to become second nature now, where it becomes part of your game and you feel comfortable catching the ball and not even hesitating. But it's going to take time. It's going to take a lot of misses and it's going to take a lot of times where instead of going to the 3-point line, you're at 17, 18 feet like you normally have. It's repetition, consistently and discipline."

Grizzlies center Marc Gasol was impressed with how gracefully 76ers big man Joel Embiid moves for his size when they faced each other Tuesday. Embiid had 13 points and 5 rebounds in 12:45 in the loss to Memphis.
