The Philadelphia 76ers have selected four players in the lottery since 2014. Ben Simmons will become the third player in that group to not play in the season after being drafted. Jahlil Okafor played in 53 games after being drafted No. 3 overall by the 76ers in 2015.

Mavs president Donnie Nelson on perceived lack of value for 76ers in Nerlens Noel deal: "Look, they had an extremely difficult situation. They were overstocked at the center position. You're looking at basically the possibility of a couple-month rental, and so I think they did the best that they could with the situation they had. It was really a need position for us, and it was taking the best possible deal they could get. They like Justin Anderson a lot. He is the critical piece, and it was hard for us to give them that piece."

Dave McMenamin ESPN Staff Writer

The Cavs won't make any decision on potentially bringing in Larry Sanders to fill their 15th roster spot until after the 3 p.m. deadline, a league source tells ESPN. Andrew Bogut is another big Cleveland has long coveted and with Philadelphia likely moving the former Golden State center, expect CLE to try to get into the mix there.

The addition of Nerlens Noel fits Dallas' dual goals of fighting for a playoff spot and preparing for a post-Dirk future. Noel, 22, has upside to be a Tyson Chandler type of rim protector, rebounder and finisher.
