NBA Lockdown: Simmons Sits, Deadline Duds

Jorge Sedano & Israel Gutierrez react to Ben Simmons being shelved for the year, discuss the lack of moves at the deadline and chat with Royce Young about the Thunder's deal.

ESPN Stats and Information

Ben Simmons will be the fifth No. 1 overall pick to miss the season after being drafted in the common draft era (since 1966). The previous two, Blake Griffin (knee surgery) and Greg Oden (knee surgery), also missed because of injury. David Robinson served his two-year commitment with the U.S. Navy and David Thompson played his first season in the ABA.

ESPN Stats and Information

The Philadelphia 76ers have selected four players in the lottery since 2014. Ben Simmons will become the third player in that group to not play in the season after being drafted. Jahlil Okafor played in 53 games after being drafted No. 3 overall by the 76ers in 2015.

Tim MacMahon ESPN Staff Writer

Mavs president Donnie Nelson on perceived lack of value for 76ers in Nerlens Noel deal: "Look, they had an extremely difficult situation. They were overstocked at the center position. You're looking at basically the possibility of a couple-month rental, and so I think they did the best that they could with the situation they had. It was really a need position for us, and it was taking the best possible deal they could get. They like Justin Anderson a lot. He is the critical piece, and it was hard for us to give them that piece."
