Jazz GM: We'll focus on Gobert, not rebuild

Utah's quest to compete with the top teams in the West took a huge hit after Gordon Hayward signed with Boston. Now, the Jazz will build around big man Rudy Gobert.

Last song of summer for Jazz

First-round pick Tony Bradley paced Utah with 19 points during a 97-76 win over the Bucks in Las Vegas. The Jazz finish their summer 1-4.

Gordon Hayward will wear No. 20 for the Boston Celtics, meaning the number will not be retired for Ray Allen. No one had worn that number since Allen bolted for Miami in 2012.

Danny Ainge on waiting for Gordon Hayward's decision: "It was nerve-wracking, quite honestly. I think that we were hopeful. We felt like we had a great meeting with him July 2 and had a good day with him. … We were just on pins and needles the whole [July 4] until we finally got the word."

Veteran forward Diaw waived by Jazz

Boris Diaw has been waived by the Jazz and will not return to the team next season, the team announced.

Utah is expected to waive Boris Diaw, a source said. He will not return to the Jazz next season.

One of Danny Ainge's top under-the-radar moves during Boston' rebuild was stealing Jonas Jerebko (and Gigi Datome) from the PIstons for Tayshaun Prince (a player Boston might have otherwise bought out). That swap came the same day as the more memorable trade that landed Isaiah Thomas from Phoenix. Jerebko was a key contributor in each of Boston's playoff runs the past three seasons. Utah will benefit from his hustle and intensity.

Suns eclipse the Jazz

The Jazz fell to the Suns, 97-81, on Wednesday during a Summer League matchup in Las Vegas. Eric Griffin led the way for the Jazz with 18 points.

Bobby Marks ESPN

Utah can structure the Thabo Sefolosha signing in two ways. The Jazz could continue to stay over the cap and use part of their full mid-level exception. Doing so would preserve the $3.3M bi-annual exception and also have Utah with $3.2M of the full mid-level remaining. The Jazz could waive Boris Diaw (July 15 guaranteed date) and use room to sign Sefolosha. Signing with room would see Utah with $6M in cap space while also having the $4.3M room mid-level exception.

Best of summer league: Donovan Mitchell

Gobert: Hayward's Jazz departure a sour note

Rudy Gobert says he's not mad that Gordon Hayward left Utah in free agency, but wishes his former teammate's exit had gone smoother.

Jazz rookie Donovan Mitchell wowed the crowds in Utah with his high-flying slams.

Mitchell dazzles in summer league

Former Louisville star Donovan Mitchell, the No. 13 pick in the draft, totaled 37 points and eight steals for the Jazz in an 84-81 OT loss to the Grizzlies on Tuesday. Utah fell to 0-3 in Las Vegas.

Clippers down Jazz

Jalil Wilson scored 18 points off the bench as the Clippers defeated the Jazz 86-67 on Sunday on Day 3 of the Las Vegas Summer League. Mitchell continues to shine in summer play

No. 13 pick Donovan Mitchell scored a game-high 19 points, but it wasn't enough as the Jazz lost to the Trail Blazers 72-63 in their Las Vegas Summer League opener Saturday.

Julian Wright playing for the Utah Jazz summer league team has to be the biggest, "Man, he's still out here playing with the young kids?" sighting in Las Vegas.
