Tito Maddox

Invalid request

Invalid request Notes: Tito Maddox has spent the past year looking for a court to play on after being declared ineligble at Fresno State prior to the 2001-02 season for taking gifts from an agent. It was his second such NCAA offense after sitting out eight games prior to the 2000-01 season.

During his one season at Fresno State, however, Maddox displayed the talent that made him one of the most athletically gifted point guards in college basketball. In 25 games for the Bulldogs, Maddox averaged 13.5 points and eight assists in helping Fresno State reach the NCAA Tournament.

Early entry candidate for the 2002 NBA draft, Maddox originally an early entry candidate for the 2001 NBA draft, but withdrew his name from consideration prior to the draft.

In his one season at Fresno State (2000-01), Maddox was named Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year and to the WAC All-Newcomer Team. Selected First Team NABC District 13.

Signed with Fresno State in the spring of 1999. Sat out the 1999-2000 season while working to satisfy NCAA academic requirements. In his sole college season, scored in double figures in 23 of 25 games. Led the WAC and was fourth in the nation in assists (8.0 apg). Averaged 13.5 points and 5.8 rebounds. Had five games with at least 10 assists, including a season-high 17 against TCU to go along with 16 points and nine rebounds. Had 130 assists in league play, the second-best mark in conference history. Recorded 14 assists and 10 points vs. SMU.

Positives: Maddox is a taller point at 6-4 and he sees the floor as well as any playmaker. Sometimes he's too flashy, but he can make the difficult pass. He has to work on making the easy pass within the offense. He showed he could be a scorer at times in 2000-01 with Fresno State.

Negatives: Maddox didn't play last season because he was ineligible and didn't end up playing in the ABA or any other fledgling minor league. The questions still remain about his perimeter shooting. If he can make 3-pointers then Maddox has got a good shot to go higher in the draft.

Summary: Maddox had first-round talent had he stayed at Fresno State. Being ineligible cost him a lot of money. He could still sneak into the bottom of the first round, but he's more likely a second round pick. He's got the talent to stick in the league if he has his act together.
