Mario Stojic

Notes: Mario Stojic split time in the Italian League between Pallacanestro Treviso and Benetton, playing 14 games for the later before being left off the European Final Four roster. Averaged 7.1 points during the regular season for Benetton.

Moved to Italy for the 2001-02 season, where he was signed by Pallacanestro Treviso, after playing for KK Zagreb in Croatia during the 2000-01 season. Started his professional career in 1996-97 with KK Sava Osiguranje Rijeka (Croatia). The following season, 1997-98, he was signed by KK Zagreb.

Stojic is a member of the Croatian National Team, and won the silver at the 1998 European Junior Championship and the bronze at the 1999 World Junior Championship. Also played the 2000 Under 20 European Championship and was silver medal at the 2001 World Championship for 22-and-Under. Played in the 1999-00 Croatian All Star Game. Won the 2000-01 Italian Supercup.

Positives: Stojic is an athletic scorer who likes to slash to the basket. Has a solid mid-range jumper and good ball handling skills and height for a two guard.

Negatives: Stojic is very inconsistent and tends to turn the ball over too much. Can't hit the NBA three with any consistency. Questionable decision-making skills and work ethic have kept him on the bench.

Summary: Stojic is a bit of a wild card. Played well at the World Championships but has found himself in coach D'Antoni's doghouse. Scouts weren't impressed when they traveled to Treviso to see him play, but someone might take a gamble on his potential in the second round.
