Juan Navarro

POINT GUARD | (6-4, 193) | SPAIN

Notes: Juan Carlos Navarro started playing for FC Barcelona in 1999-00 season and still plays for the team. Averaged 10.3 ppg for Barcelona this past season. Started his professional career with CB Santfeliuenc (Spain) youth teams and moved to F.C. Barcelona juniors in 1996-97. Made his debut during the 1997-98 season playing with F.C. Barcelona B (EBA League) and also some games in the ACB League. The following season, 1998-99, was still in FB Barcelona B roster (EBA) and played also few games in the ACB League.

Navarro played for Spain in the 2000 Olympics and won the bronze medal at the 2001 European Championship. Also captured the gold medal at the 1999 World Championship. Was a member of the 1998-99 and 2000-01 FC Barcelona squads that won the Spanish National Championship after capturing the 1997-98 Spanish Junior Championship with FC Barcelona. He has been a member of the Spanish Junior National Team, which won the gold medal at the 1998 European Junior Championship.

Positives: Navarro is a quick combo guard and an explosive scorer. His game is penetration and he can take just about anyone off the dribble in Spain. Loves to play one-on-one. Really hustles on both ends of the court. A solid defender who uses his quickness to get steals and start the break.

Negatives: Navarro may be a shooting guard in a point guard's body. His lack of a consistent outside shot hurts. Doesn't have the ball-handling or decision-making skills to play point guard. Is pretty selfish with the ball. Scouts wonder whether he'll be able to handle to NBA grind. His body looks fragile and given his game, he'll take a beating taking it to the hole.

Summary: Navarro is one of the more popular players in Europe, but there are a lot of questions about whether his game translates into the NBA. Lots of talent, but he's likely stuck in the second round.
