Zack MacPhee

Second base | Arizona State

Plenty of people questioned whether Dustin Pedroia's size would prevent him from taking his Arizona State success into pro ball. Now that Pedroia owns an American League MVP award, the question about MacPhee becomes whether he can replicate his favorite player's success. Listed at 5-foot-8, 172 pounds, MacPhee took home consensus All-America and Pac-10 Player of the Year honors following a breakout sophomore season. Switch-hitting for the first time in his career, MacPhee raised his average from .270 as a freshman to .389, and led the nation with 14 triples (a school record). All told, MacPhee ranked first or second in the Pac-10 in eight offensive categories and played a vital role in leading Arizona State to a 27-1 start under new coach Tim Esmay.
