Coaches of top-ranked teams lead finalists
ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Tipoff Club has announced the names of finalists for the Naismith College Basketball Coach of the Year Awards, including Kansas' Roy Williams and Maryland's Gary Williams, whose teams hold the top two spots in the ESPN/USA Today and AP polls.
Oklahoma's Kelvin Sampson and Eddie Sutton of Oklahoma State also are on the list.
Geno Auriemma of No. 1 Connecticut and Tara VanDeveer of second-ranked Stanford head the list of women's coaches.
The winners will be honored in Atlanta on April 5, along with college players of the year and other Naismith award winners.
Others named among the 40 men's and women's finalists for the coach of the year awards Tuesday were:
