AMES, Iowa -- Olympic gold medalist Cael Sanderson was hired
as an assistant wrestling coach at Iowa State, where he went 159-0
while winning four NCAA championships.
Sanderson won the freestyle gold medal at 185 pounds at the
Athens Games. He finished at Iowa State in 2002 and has spent the
last two years as an administrative assistant to athletic director
Bruce Van De Velde.
"I've always wanted to coach and there can't be a better place
to coach," Sanderson said Tuesday.
Sanderson went 39-0 as a freshman at Iowa State and 40-0 each of
his last three seasons. He was picked as the outstanding wrestler
at the NCAA tournament four times won the Dan Hodge Trophy, given
