Broyles has irregular heartbeat

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- University of Arkansas Athletic Director Frank Broyles has been hospitalized with an irregular heartbeat.

Broyles, 79, checked into Fayetteville's Washington Regional
Medical Center Tuesday.

"Coach Broyles is resting comfortably and taking medication to
normalize his heart beat," said Kevin Trainor, the university's
sports information director. "We expect he'd be released in the
next few days. This is not anything that would prevent him from
returning to work."

Broyles' wife, Barbara, died on Oct. 13 from complications of
Alzheimer's. Her funeral was Oct. 15.

Frank Broyles has been hospitalized three times in the last year
with an irregular heartbeat. He has been taking medication to
regulate his heart rate for 10 years.

Broyles was hired as head football coach at Arkansas in 1957 and became athletic director in 1973.
