Notre Dame baseball coach's wife dies

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Jody Schrage, the wife of Notre Dame baseball coach Dave Schrage, died Tuesday. She was 45.

Schrage died at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, following a six-week battle with cancer and related complications, school officials said.

"All of the thoughts and prayers of everyone at the university are with Dave, their daughters Kaitlyn and Brianne and their family during this difficult time," Notre Dame athletic director Kevin White said.

Schrage was hired as Notre Dame's baseball coach in July after four years at Evansville. He guided the Purple Aces to a 43-22 record last season and their third NCAA tournament appearance.

Funeral arrangements were pending.
