Aggies hire former U.S. track coach for cross country program

LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- Former U.S. Track & Field and University
of Washington coach Orin Richburg was hired Tuesday to oversee the
women's track and field and men's cross country programs at New
Mexico State.

After 16 years coaching at Washington, Richburg was named head
coach of the United States team at the 2001 world championships in
Canada.

More recently, he was head relay coach for Team USA at the 2006
world junior championships in China. He also will serve as relay
coach at this year's Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro and the
2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.

"All events are important and we will not focus just on the
sprinting events but the jumps, distance running and throws,"
Richburg said. "This will be a team effort."

Richburg also spent seven seasons as coach at Kent State, where
he had been an All-America sprinter and played football.
