We all make -- or think about making -- New Year's resolutions. Most of them fall by the wayside and come February we're onto the next big thing. For Michael Chandler (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North), this year is different.
Chandler, No. 52 overall, twice reneged on verbal commitments, one to Louisville and another to Xavier. Within minutes of ringing in the new year, Chandler had reached a college decision, this time he says, for good. During an official visit to Central Florida, Chandler committed to play for Donnie Jones.
"This is my final decision," Chandler said.
Jones, a proven recruiter, worked Chandler and his mother with diligence and in the end, was rewarded for his attention to detail.
"I've built a great relationship with him and the teammates," Chandler said. "Mom has built a great relationship with Jones also. I loved the whole program and how it will fit me as a player and person and the fact that he has put good big men in the NBA."
The NBA reference was made regarding the fact that Jones has mentored 12 NBA draft picks, most recently Marshall's Hassan Whiteside.
When it comes to commitments, Chandler knows he's been down this road before and not everyone will be convinced this is his final go round. Knowing that, Chandler told ESPN he's found his home and that's that.
"I know I have said this before, but I will sign with UCF and this is by far the best decision for me."
