Villanova received a commitment from a key frontcourt target in ESPNU Super 60 center Daniel Ochefu (Westtown, Pa./Westtown School) on Monday after the 6-foot-9, 225-pound center trimmed his list to Georgetown, Temple, Texas and the Wildcats.
"I am really excited to be committing to Villanova because I really liked Coach [Jay] Wright and his assistants," Ochefu said via a text message. "I liked the fact that its close to my family and that my high school is only 20 minutes away, so my family and friends can come see me play. I also like the classes they have coming at Villanova the next couple of years."
With Ochefu, Wright takes another big man off the board, and lands one of the highest-rated bigs the Wildcats have ever landed. The No. 20 overall player in the 2012 class is a true post with great size and good skill. He makes good decisions and is a good area rebounder on both ends as well.
He balances out Villanova's class, which should challenge for supremacy in the Big East and beyond. Ochefu joins fellow Super 60 prospects SF Savon Goodman (Philadelphia, Pa./Academy of New Church) and PG Ryan Arcidiacono (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy). Arcidiacono should be the leader, the maestro in the backcourt. A local kid whose toughness trumps everything, but his ability to distribute the basketball. He's got the size and moxy to be a big-time Big East player. Goodman, a small forward with a mix of athleticism and toughness is a character player who also hails from the area.
The first round of the NCAA did not go Villanova's way as George Mason mercifully ended a season that derailed in Big East play. However, with Ochefu's addition, along with Goodman and Arcidiacono, Wright has reinforcements on the way.
