The FIBA Americas U16 Championship will no longer take place in Argentina, according to USA Basketball Communications Manager, Jenny Maag. The USA Basketball trials set for May 28-31 in Colorado Springs will result in the first U16 team to compete in the FIBA Americas tournament.

The FIBA U16 competition will still run June 10-14 despite the change in venue which some sources close to the situation believe could be in Mexico.

The invitees for the trial are expected to be announced by USA Basketball in early May, according to Maag, though no dates have been set. The invitees will be selected by the USA Basketball competition committee for women's basketball. Those committee spots are selected for four year terms. The current Quadrennium is from 2009-2012 and the USA Basketball website lists those committees as "TBD" or to be determined.

To be eligible players must be born on or after Jan. 1, 1993, and must be U.S. citizens. Most players that qualify will be in the classes of 2011 and 2012, the current sophomore and freshmen classes.
