The Big East needs not prove itself, but three of its top teams (Villanova, Xavier and Butler) face teams from other power conferences. A sweep would give the conference even more credibility.

Bracketology: Kentucky (for now) takes a dip

Big Blue Nation didn't like losing at home to UCLA. It's probably fair to say it won't like falling from a No. 1 seed -- or being matched up against a team that already knocked off a major power this season.

Iowa's 78-64 win over rival No. 25 Iowa State is a major victory for a Hawkeyes team that recently lost to Nebraska-Omaha and suffered a lopsided loss to Virginia a few weeks ago. It's the kind of the game Fran McCaffery's team can use to get its season back on track.

Saint John's promising 6-9 German import, Richard Freudenberg, just made first 3 of career after 11 misses. 1st hoop since 11-24.

Indiana State Upsets Butler

Brenton Scott hit a free throw to put Indiana State ahead, giving the Sycamores a 72-71 upset win over No. 16 Butler and setting off a court-storming in Terre Haute.

Potential No. 1 pick Markelle Fultz had Washington's only real highlights in the first half against Gonzaga, a pretty left-handed spin and finish in transition and a pro-move step back jumper ... but finished 3 of 14 from the field and went into the locker room trailing 47-22. UW is rough enough when Fultz plays well (and he usually has); when he's off, they're doomed.
