Duke's open basketball practice is notable for who is not participating. Freshman Harry Giles, still being brought along slowly while rehabbing a torn ACL, is dressed but not involved in any contact drills. Junior guard Grayson Allen isn't injured, but a Duke spokesman said he's being held out to "keep him fresh."

Kansas was already bringing three five-star 2017 prospects on official visits this weekend -- and the Jayhawks also added one late in the week. Elite guard Trevon Duval -- the No. 1 guard in 2017 -- told ESPN he's heading to Lawrence this weekend for Late Night in the Phog. Duval hasn't progressed much in his recruitment, but Kansas is certainly involved.

Duke (like many schools) will hold its first official practice today. Freshman Harry Giles has been brought along slowly and that will continue to be the plan as he recovers from a torn ACL suffered in the first game of his senior season in high school at Oak Hill Academy. Giles still on track to play in the season-opener on Nov. 11. "I'm definitely confident," Giles said of playing in the opener.

The NCAA has yet to clear NC State's Turkish center Omer Yurtseven. Speaking at media day, the 7-foot freshman said he hoped for the best because, "I don't think I have done something wrong." His club coach in Turkey, Zeljko Obradovic, reportedly said Yurtseven was paid by the club team the past three seasons.

Five-star prospect Hamidou Diallo is eligible to skip college and go straight to the NBA, but told ESPN, "I'm sticking to going to college." Diallo said he graduated high school last June and is now doing a post-grad year -- the same rule Thon Maker used to enter the 2016 NBA Draft.

Despite coming off a torn ACL, NC State coach Mark Gottfried declared freshman point guard Dennis Smith Jr., "the best in the country. Period." Gottfried added Smith has the potential to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft.
