Miami coach Frank Haith has told ESPN.com that he's been given clearance to fly to Blacksburg, Va., for Saturday night's game against Virginia Tech, less than 48 hours after having an emergency appendectomy.
Haith said a private jet would fly him from Miami on Saturday afternoon.
"I'm sore, but I've got to go," Haith said.
Haith said he thought he pulled a muscle last week at Wake Forest. He remained uncomfortable throughout the week. He wasn't going to get checked until the soreness turned into pain. He said he went to the doctor Thursday and they wanted to conduct emergency surgery after conducting an ultra sound. Haith said the surgery was done with a scope, making the recovery quicker.
Haith said he didn't want to miss this critical ACC game. The 'Canes, 15-8, 6-6 in the ACC, play the Hokies (13-10, 6-6), two days after Virginia Tech upset Duke.
Haith, 39, said his plan is to fly on the private jet after the game to Tallahassee and wait for the rest of the team to arrive Sunday. He said he would probably need the added rest. Miami plays at Florida State on Tuesday.
