WORCESTER, Mass. -- Holy Cross basketball coach Ralph
Willard has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, but still plans to
coach next season.
He is pursuing medical advice on the best way to treat the
cancer, he said in a statement issued by the college.
"I am confident of a positive outcome and believe I will be
able to do this while fulfilling my personal and professional
responsibilities," said Willard, a 1967 Holy Cross graduate.
Holy Cross was 25-7 last season and reached the second round of
the NIT. Since Willard took over as coach before the 2000-01
season, the Crusaders are 114-68. He also was head coach at
Pittsburgh for five seasons and Western Kentucky for four. He has a
career record as a head coach of 258-192.
