Duke's 31-point destruction of Texas on Saturday did two things: it cemented the Blue Devils in at No. 1 and it created a vacancy at No. 2.
Duke earned 30 of the possible 31 first-place votes this week in the ESPN/USA Today coaches' poll, remaining comfortably at the top. The new No. 2 is Connecticut, which remained unbeaten after dispatching UMass at the Hartford Civic Center on Thursday.
Villanova and Louisville each bumped up a spot to 3rd and 4th, respectively, while 7-1 Memphis moves into the top five, leaping over the Longhorns, who dropped all the way to No. 7, and Boston College, which fell from No. 6 to No. 13 after losing to Michigan State in the Jimmy V Classic and at Maryland in its ACC debut.
Other big gainers included UCLA (up four to No. 14), George Washington (up five to No. 15) and Wake Forest (up five to No. 16). Former No. 19 Alabama and No. 25 Arizona fell out of this week's poll and were replaced by Wisconsin (at No. 24) and unbeaten Ohio State (at No. 25).
