Missouri to introduce UAB's Anderson as coach

Former UAB head coach Mike Anderson will be introduced as Missouri's next men's basketball coach at a 4 p.m. ET news conference, ESPN.com has learned.

Anderson will replace Quin Snyder, who was forced out in February.

An emergency meeting of the University of Missouri System Board of Curators had been called for early Sunday afternoon, the St. Louis Post Dispatch reported. The curators were expected to discuss the future of athletics director Mike Alden, according to the newspaper.

Alden has been under fire since Snyder's midseason departure. Multiple investigations into the circumstances surrounding Snyder's resignation revealed a contentious relationship between Alden and Snyder. Snyder has contended that Alden sent radio announcer Gary Link to tell him he either needed to quit or be fired at the end of the season.

The investigators' report found that Alden did not send Link to fire Snyder, but Link's version of the events was consistent with the details offered by Snyder.

The report also noted that Snyder was encouraged to resign at
midseason more than a year ago. Before this season, Alden told
Snyder that in order to keep his job, he needed a winning season, a
finish in the top half of the Big 12 and an NCAA Tournament appearance.

Alden's fate, however, will not affect the hiring of Anderson, ESPN.com has learned.

The hiring of Anderson ends an exhaustive search for the Tigers. Anderson will become the first African-American head coach in a major sport at Missouri.

Anderson has been atop Missouri's list from the outset, with the hope that the Tigers could find a diverse candidate who would energize the program's fan base. Anderson would bring a unique style to the Big 12, employing a pressing, trapping scheme with his team constantly moving at a frenetic pace. The Tigers were hoping to hire a coach who could help fill the seats at Mizzou Arena with a winner, but also with a style of play that is entertaining.

Anderson, a former Arkansas assistant under Nolan Richardson, has been an instant hit at UAB. He coached the Blazers to NCAA Tournament berths in three of the past four years and racked up an 89-41 record.
