Eustachy: Three Southern Miss starters to transfer

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Three starters have quit the Southern Mississippi men's basketball team, coach Larry Eustachy said Thursday.

Eustachy said guard Jarekus Singleton and forwards David Cornwell and Mildon Ambres will transfer for their senior seasons.

"They decided to find places where they will be a better fit," Eustachy told The Clarion-Ledger of Jackson. "It makes room for the new guys and they can find a place where they can have more of an impact."

They were starters on last year's Golden Eagles team that finished 10-21, but Eustachy expected them to play smaller roles next season with nine recruits coming to Hattiesburg.

Singleton averaged 8.3 points and three rebounds last season. Cornwell averaged 7.9 points and four rebounds. Ambres, who transferred from LSU three years ago, averaged 6.4 points and 4.1 rebounds.

Eustachy said Singleton may transfer to William Carey or West Georgia, while Ambres would probably go to Oklahoma City University. It was not known where Cornwell would plan to transfer.
