New Mexico State star Nelson charged with robbery

LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- New Mexico State University star
forward Tyrone Nelson has been arrested and charged with robbing a
pizza delivery man, Las Cruces police said Friday.

Nelson, 21, of Hempstead, Texas, is accused of robbing the
delivery man here Tuesday. Police arrested him at a local mall

The delivery man identified two suspects in the robbery, a
police report stated.

Nelson was charged with robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery
and is being held on a $15,000 bond at the Dona Ana County jail.

Nelson has been suspended from the basketball program for 72
hours pending an investigation, New Mexico State officials said in
a news release Friday.

"The situation is not consistent with Tyrone's character, but
we will get to the bottom of what happened," NMSU head coach
Reggie Theus said.

Nelson was a first-team All-Western Athletic Conference player
last year for the Aggies. He averaged a team-high 17.8 points and
8.7 rebounds during the 2005-06 season.
