Colorado regents approve contract for Bzdelik

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The University of Colorado board
of regents on Thursday approved basketball coach Jeff Bzdelik's
five-year contract and his $270,000 buyout from the Air Force

Bzdelik went 50-16 in two seasons with the Falcons before being
lured away on April 4 to Boulder to replace Ricardo Patton.

Bzdelik's annual compensation is around $750,000, more than
twice what he was making at Air Force.

His base salary is $161,000 plus $238,500 from radio and TV
shows, $200,000 from sponsors and $35,000 from three annual
basketball camps.

He'll also get up to $3,500 in Nike products every year, a
$7,200 car allowance and $4,800 toward a country club membership.

He can also earn up to $100,000 a year in off-the-court
performance objectives such as making sure his athletes are good

His contract includes a schedule of bonuses for success on the
court, as well. He'll get $15,000 for winning 15 games and another
$10,000 for each additional two victories in the regular season.

For winning the Big 12 regular season title, he'd get $35,000
and another $35,000 for winning the Big 12 tournament, $10,000 for
being named conference coach of the year and $25,000 for being
named national coach of the year.

If the Buffaloes reach the NIT, he'd get $10,000, plus another
$25,000 for winning it. He'd get $35,000 for qualifying for the
NCAA tournament and $10,000 for advancing to the second and third
rounds and to the quarterfinals. He'd get $35,000 for reaching the
Final Four.

He'd get $350,000 for winning the NCAA championship.

The regents, meeting in Colorado Springs, also approved moving
expenses of up to $15,000 and eight season tickets to football and
men's and women's home basketball games.

If Bzdelik leaves the school before 2009, he'd have to pay CU
$750,000. After that, he'd have to pay $500,000 to break his
