The Division I Council approved legislation Wednesday at the NCAA convention that adjusts the start of practice for football and the first game for basketball, pending approval this spring from the Division I Board of Directors. In football, this measure corrects the problem created last year when two-a-days were eliminated. Under the change, football teams may open practice 29 days before their first games. Basketball teams may play their first games on the Tuesday before the second Friday of November — three days earlier than the current date.
