Texas A&M official adds it was a belt pack malfunction. Officials determined the foul was after the clock would have expired. (FYI from me: J.J. Frazier turned down a shot before continuing the possession). Tough loss for Georgia after a missed opportunity last week at Florida.

Controversy at end of Texas A&M's win

With Georgia trailing by a point in the final seconds, the clock stopped running but play continued. After a foul was called, the referees reviewed the play and assessed that time would have run out, and awarded Texas A&M the victory.

Here is the official interpretation of what happened at the end of the Georgia-Texas A&M game on ESPN2: The clock stopped at 5.6 seconds, the officials then timed the difference with a stop watch from when the clock stopped to when Georgia's Yante Maten got fouled. It was more than 5.6 seconds. The situation was correctly administered by rule, according to NCAA officials. Georgia loses 63-62 after holding a double-digit lead.

With the win, Villanova stayed a perfect 8-and-0 at home all-time when ranked No. 1

John Gasaway ESPN Insider

Are we being a bit too blasé about Jay Wright's team being ranked No. 1 in the nation and on-track for a No. 1 seed? We haven't seen a defending champion this strong since Duke started the 2010-11 season 19-1. Villanova could repeat.
