Saint Mary's coach Randy Bennett said in a text that he is staying with the Gaels. He had been mentioned as a possible candidate at Cal. Bennett is expected to receive an extension sometime this spring. Bennett led the Gaels to the round of 32 before losing to Arizona in Salt Lake City. Bennett has led the Gaels to six NCAA appearances since 2001, 3 WCC titles (1 outright).

Washington releases Mike Hopkins contract memorandum: salary goes from $1.8 million in year one to $2.3 in year six. Buyout goes from $2 million in year one down to $500,000 in year five. Bonuses for Pac -12 titles, advancing in NCAA tournament and high APR scores also included.

The Jayhawks are given the edge by ESPN's BPI for Thursday's Sweet 16 contest vs. Purdue. It'll be a near-home game for Kansas, as the two will face off at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri.

Purdue's Caleb Swanigan said the perception of the Big Ten being down as a conference was due to "the big names like Indiana, Michigan State weren't prolific powerhouses as they usually are... if Duke or North Carolina and an off year. People would say the ACC is off, and I think thats more where it came from."

Virginia junior Marial Shayok is transferring, per the school. Averaged 8.9 points this past season. Minutes were inconsistent late in the season, but did score 23 points in the NCAA Tournament win over UNC-Wilmington.

Kansas guard Frank Mason said Purdue's size was comparable to Baylor. The Jayhawks are betting on their quickness to win out: "Coach tells us all the time, speed beats size the majority of time. We just want try to take advantage of their size, really get out and run it, and put pressure on their defense."

Wake Forest 6-foot-10 forward John Collins told ESPN he will test the NBA waters, but will not hire an agent. "After a lot of thought, I have decided to declare for the NBA Draft, but not hire an agent," Collins told ESPN. "This allows me the opportunity to be evaluated by teams over the next few weeks and gather information from them. I want to make an informed decision about what is best for my future, whether that is turning pro at this time or returning to Wake Forest for my junior season."
