Baylor is never going to have a better opportunity for the Final Four than this East Regional field. And the Bears are coming up incredibly and surprisingly small.

Baylor plays zone and has absolutely no idea how to attack this one. Scott Drew finally calls a timeout as South Carolina fans take over this building.

Xavier is trying to become the second team in history to beat the 1, 2 and 3 seed in its region since seeding began in 1979. In 1986, LSU beat the 3, 2 and 1 in the Round of 32, Sweet 16 and Elite 8 before losing to eventual national champion Louisville in the Final Four. (AP Photo/Ben Margot)

With about four minutes left in the first half, and a 12-point lead, South Carolina fans have Madison Square Garden rocking with a "Let's Go Gamecocks!" chant.

Baylor hasn't scored in nearly four minutes and missing badly. The Bears range right now is six inches

Luke Maye entered this game averaging 5.1 PPG and shooting 35 percent from the 3-point line. At halftime, he has 14 points after making 3 of 4 from beyond the arc in the first half. North Carolina draining everything. Mike Tyson'd the Bulldogs early.

ESPN Stats and Information

Justin Jackson is the first North Carolina player to make 100 3-pointers in a season.

This is what happens when Justin Jackson gets hot and Joel Berry II shifts the defense with his penetration and passing and Luke Maye makes his first three shots from beyond the arc and UNC refuses to give up good looks on defense. No team in America beats North Carolina when the Tar Heels are shooting and defending like this.

South Carolina defense really forcing Baylor into some crazy shots. No surprise they aren't going in frequently. Gamecocks offense, though, can't take advantage early

Well, just as everyone predicted, it's the Luke Maye Show.

Somewhat sparse crowd overall inside the Garden for tonight's first game, but it is a decidedly South Carolina crowd. Gamecocks fans quite vocal.

ESPN Stats and Information

West Virginia shot 26.7 percent from the field Thursday vs. Gonzaga. Per the Elias Sports Bureau, that's the lowest field-goal percentage for any team in a Round-of-32 game or later since the same Mountaineers shot 24.1 percent during the Sweet 16 in 2015. (Photo by Sean M. Haffey/Getty Images)

Tar Heels talking a lot on defense, calling out the screens and cuts. It's helping. Butler has hit some big 3-pointers but they're struggling inside the arc because Tar Heels not getting caught out of position. North Carolina more vocal than the Bulldogs right now.

ESPN Stats and Information

Kansas Gs Devonte' Graham and Frank Mason on Thursday became the second pair of Jayhawks teammates to each score 25 points in an NCAA tournament game, per the Elias Sports Bureau. Dave Robisch scored 29 points and Bud Stallworth had 25 during the Sweet 16 in 1971. (Photo by Jamie Squire/Getty Images)

South Carolina allows fewest paint points in the country but that's not stopping Baylor. Dumping ball inside almost every possession. Gamecocks collapsing and making it tough.

ESPN Stats and Information

Oregon F Jordan Bell grabbed 13 rebounds Thursday vs. Michigan, his fourth straight NCAA tournament game with at least 12 boards. Per the Elias Sports Bureau, the last player to have that many rebounds in four consecutive tournament games was Oklahoma's Blake Griffin in 2009. (Photo by Jamie Squire/Getty Images)

Justin Jackson looking the part of a lottery pick tonight. Probably will go in back end of first round, but this is a guy who clearly made right decision to return. Has really expanded his range.

Baylor has a small section of fans at Madison Square Garden, but the cheers from the crowd -- from large pockets throughout the arena -- make it sound as though this South Carolina-Baylor game is in Columbia, SC. The Garden isn't near full yet and Gamecock fans are making themselves heard.

A big key for UNC against Butler is defending the 3-PT. If UNC can limit the attempts of Butler they will limit the number of makes. The best concept is to make Butler a drive team & don't help off shooters. Can Butler stay even in paint points?

Jeff Goodman ESPN Insider

Joel Berry II looks pretty healthy tonight. Making 3's and getting to the rim whenever he wants.

Myron Medcalf ESPN Staff Writer

North Carolina overwhelming Butler with Berry and Jackson. Bulldogs can't keep up with the duo. And the Tar Heels are doing a great job of denying entry passes and eliminating uncontested shot opportunities on the perimeter. Butler needs a run right now.

Michael Porter Jr. Is the first No. 1 prospect to decommission from a school and attend another in the ESPN 100 era (since 2007).

Baylor uniforms really do glow in the dark.

The lights that ring Madison Square Garden are lit in the colors of the four teams playing here tonight. They normally are orange and blue on nights the Knicks play, and red, white and blue when the Rangers play inside.
