Wake's Collins to hire agent, remain in draft

John Collins will stay in the NBA draft after a breakout sophomore season for Wake Forest. He's predicted to go 29th in Chad Ford's latest mock draft for ESPN.

Wake Forest 6-foot-10 forward John Collins told ESPN he will test the NBA waters, but will not hire an agent. "After a lot of thought, I have decided to declare for the NBA Draft, but not hire an agent," Collins told ESPN. "This allows me the opportunity to be evaluated by teams over the next few weeks and gather information from them. I want to make an informed decision about what is best for my future, whether that is turning pro at this time or returning to Wake Forest for my junior season."

ACC proves it was overrated

All season the ACC was widely considered the best league in the nation. It got nine teams into the NCAA tournament. Well, eight of them are gone now. So what does that tell you?

ESPN Stats and Information

Kansas State advanced into the Round of 64 with a 95-88 win over Wake Forest on Tuesday night. The Wildcats were dominant in the paint but will next face a Cincinnati team that allows just 60.8 points per game.

Kansas State beats Wake Forest 95-88 in an NCAA First Four game in Dayton, Ohio, and will play No. 6 seed Cincinnati in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Friday. The ViewFromVegas is the game closed a consensus pick 'em in Vegas (six sports books closed pick 'em, six closed KSU -1 but one book closed Wake Forest -1). The game went way over the betting total of 147.5. Both First Four games went over tonight while underdogs were 1-0 with the other game closing pick 'em.

Thanks in large part to a balanced offensive attack that featured four double-digit scorers, Kansas State is moving on from the First Four at UD Arena. The Wildcats weathered some solid shooting from Wake Forest by continually finding new ways to put up points and having different guys step up to do it. The win sends Kansas State off to Sacramento for a matchup with the South's No. 6 seed, Cincinnati.

A mascot dance-off between Wake Forest and Kansas State won't be enough to give either team an edge down the stretch. This matchup was a draw, and the Wildcats and Demon Deacons have played to close to one as well heading into the stretch. Can Kansas State stay out of more foul trouble? What more does John Collins have left for the Demon Deacons? Great finish shaping up in Dayton.

Austin Ward ESPN Staff Writer

Is there a reason for this Demon Deacon to be optimistic at halftime? Absolutely. Wake Forest trails Kansas State by 4, but that was with John Collins struggling to get much going early in the First Four. The leading scorer for the Demon Deacons this season got rolling a bit late to finish the half with 8 points and will likely be the focal point against the Wildcats down the stretch.

Austin Ward ESPN Staff Writer

The nightcap at the First Four at UD Arena got underway with a strong start from Kansas State. The Wildcats established some physical play and grabbed an early edge on the boards, which will be important against Wake Forest big men John Collins and Dinos Mitoglou.

ESPN Stats and Information

How important are Tuesday's and Wednesday's games? Since the First Four was introduced in 2011, one of the eight teams has advanced at least to the Round of 32 in each season. One even went from the First Four to the Final Four (VCU in 2011).

ESPN Stats and Information

Of all the First Four teams, Wake Forest and Kansas State have the highest chance to reach the round of 32, according to ESPN's BPI. Only one will get the opportunity, however, as the two schools face off in Dayton on Tuesday.

Wake may have to ride John Collins

The Demon Deacons' defense nearly kept them out of the NCAA tournament. But center John Collins is something to behold.

ESPN Stats and Information

Wake Forest is back in the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2010, as a first-four No. 11 seed in the South region. The Demon Deacons rank seventh in the nation in offensive efficiency, which should make for an intriguing battle against Kansas State, which ranks top-20 in the nation for opponents' turnover percentage.
