Baylor's Jo Lual-Acuil with perhaps the block of the tournament so far, as the 7-footer sails through the air to pin Eli Chuha's seemingly wide-open layup attempt against the glass. Baylor can't do much offensively right now against New Mexico State, but the Bears are defending, clinging to a 22-19 lead.

Baylor has roared back to take a 16-13 lead with a frenetic 13-2 run. Al Freeman has keyed the Baylor charge with five quick points and a steal off the bench.

The length of Baylor's zone is already giving New Mexico State problems. The Bears have four blocked shots in the game's first five minutes. But at the other end of the court, New Mexico State's quickness is causing issues, as the Bears already have four turnovers. The Aggies with an early 11-5 lead.

ESPN Stats and Information

ESPN's BPI favors 3rd-seeded Baylor over 14th-seeded New Mexico State, but recent history is not on the Bears' side. Baylor has lost in the first round as a top-5 seed in each of the last two NCAA tournaments.

Jake Trotter ESPN Staff Writer

The last two years, Baylor has suffered two of the biggest upsets in the opening round of the tournament, losing to Georgia State as a 3 seed two years ago, and to Yale as a 5 seed last year. Said Baylor coach Scott Drew, as his third-seeded Bears head into Friday's game with No. 14 seed New Mexico State: "Anything can happen. Doesn't matter what you're seeded, doesn't matter what you're ranked, what people say. That's the beauty of March Madness. It's not a best out of seven series."
