Were Saint Mary's, Valparaiso snubbed?
If the NCAA tournament field were determined using the Basketball Power Index (BPI), Saint Mary's (31st) and Valparaiso (42nd) would be dancing just like No. 10 seed Syracuse (39th) is.
Notable NCAA tournament snubs
Saint Mary's missed the 68-team field, despite a BPI ranking of No. 31. The Gaels, as well as Monmouth and San Diego State, all lost in conference tournament finals.
The National Invitation Tournament has placed Monmouth, St. Bonaventure, South Carolina and Valparaiso atop the field as the No. 1 seeds.
Tulsa would have been left out of the NCAA tournament had Memphis beaten UConn in the American Athletic Conference championship game Sunday, selection committee chairman Joe Castiglione said.
