Louisville has wrapped up its media briefing addressing the NCAA notice of allegations. School officials pledged to fight the failure to monitor charge against Rick Pitino, and NCAA consultant Chuck Smrt said he didn't think vacating wins would be an "appropriate" punishment. Cardinals fans are giddy about lack of serious allegations like lack of institutional control. One local sports radio station played Michael Jackson's "Beat It" to celebrate beating the rap from the NCAA.

Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich says the school will dispute and "dispute this strong" the NCAA allegation that Rick Pitino failed to monitor Andre McGee. "I asked it to myself a million times, should he have known? And I have come to the conclusion that he could not have known. The activity was clearly kept from him."

Louisville officials, including athletic director Tom Jurich and head coach Rick Pitino are meeting with the media now to discuss the NCAA notice of allegations they've received.

Jeff Borzello ESPN Staff Writer

ESPN 100 Jordan Nwora on committing to Louisville despite knowing the Notice of Allegations was coming: "I had complete faith in coach [Rick] Pitino and coach [Kenny] Johnson. I felt as if they handled the whole situation with a great level of integrity especially when they gave themselves that postseason ban last year with a team that could have done good in the tournament. So I wasn't really expecting another extreme punishment because they had already sat out of the tournament."

What type of penalties is Pitino facing? (1:55)

Fran Fraschilla @franfraschilla

Feel bad for Rick Pitino. I'd guess he'd didn't know. But "failure to monitor" sanction is direct result of coaches lying through years.

Dana O'Neil ESPN Senior Writer

An important distinction regarding Louisville - The NCAA found no evidence that Rick Pitino was aware of what was going on. His charge is part of a new coaches control penalty - that he should have known. He can still be suspended but it is considerably less egregious.

Jay Bilas @JayBilas

NOA: NCAA investigation found Rick Pitino didn't know of McGee's violations, nor reasonably could have. Culpability placed where it belongs.

The NCAA charged Rick Pitino with a failure to monitor, but levied no serious penalties on Louisville. Details: es.pn/2eblF9z

Louisville will dispute any penalty against Pitino (1:59)
