Leinart reaches five-TD mark for third time

MIAMI -- Southern California quarterback Matt Leinart threw
five touchdown passes Tuesday night against Oklahoma to set an
Orange Bowl record previously shared by three others.

Leinart's 4-yard scoring pass to Steve Smith early in the third
quarter was his fifth of the game, eclipsing the mark set by
Florida State's Danny Kanell in 1996 and later matched by
Michigan's Tom Brady in 2000 and Florida's Rex Grossman in 2002. It
gave the Trojans a 45-10 lead.

It was the third time Leinart threw for five scores in a game,
also doing so last season against Notre Dame and earlier this
season against Oregon State.

The third-quarter catch was Smith's third touchdown of the game,
tying an Orange Bowl mark shared by Florida State's Andre Cooper -- in the game where Kanell set the previous mark -- and Michigan's
David Terrell five years ago.
