Picking a Face of the Decade favors a coach who succeeds for 10 years over a player who shines for four. Our faces include only five players. Two of them share a decade and a third represents an attitude rather than a single person. That speaks to the power and permanence of the game's greatest mentors. Knute Rockne, Bud Wilkinson, Bear Bryant and Bobby Bowden put their respective schools on the national map. The deaths of Rockne and Bryant set off mournings that last to this day. Thankfully, Bowden has yet to qualify for mourning. As for the 1970s, you could no more separate Woody from Bo than you could Frazier from Ali. There is one difference. Frazier and Ali beat each other silly only three times. -- Ivan Maisel
