Penn State coach Joe Paterno has won his 400th game. That's 30-plus straight seasons of undefeated. That's 50 or so more games than any other active FBS coach has coached, much less won.

Paterno, 83, took the job in 1966 for a salary of $20,000. He makes more than that now. Eight of his former players join him as members of the College Football Hall of Fame. The Hall changed its eligibility rules in 2006 to elect him before retirement. Retire? If Paterno had a win for every opposing recruiter who said he would retire … as a matter of fact, he does. -- Ivan Maisel
