Les Miles

Coach | LSU

The coach of the year rarely comes from a team that began the season ranked No. 4. In most seasons, ESPN.com would honor a coach like Bill Snyder, who took Kansas State to a 10-2 record and proved age is just a lineman's number. But Miles maneuvered the Tigers through the toughest schedule in the FBS, through an illness that forced his offensive coordinator to give up the job in August, through suspensions that took away his starting QB for four games and three key contributors at midseason. Miles never flinched, and his team never flinched. It playes with ferocious competitiveness. It makes mistakes. But it doesn't stop coming. When a team that talented plays that hard, the coach is doing something right.
