WR Parrish won't start, but will play

CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Wide receiver Roscoe Parrish and defensive end John Square will play in No. 3 Miami's season opener on Thursday against Louisiana Tech despite being bothered by knee injuries.

Parrish, who is expected to serve as the Hurricanes' primary
slot receiver and punt returner, underwent arthroscopic surgery on
his right knee on Aug. 11. He will not start, but will play
Thursday, coach Larry Coker said Sunday.

Linebacker Rocky McIntosh, who underwent arthroscopic surgery to remove bone chips from his knee, also may play on Thursday, Coker

"He's moving around awfully well and we're getting a lot of
good reports,'' Coker said.

At least two dozen Miami players have battled injuries during
preseason. Most of the injuries have been minor, but several
starters -- including middle linebacker Jonathan Vilma, tight end
Kellen Winslow, right tackle Vernon Carey, wide receiver Jason
Geathers, defensive tackles Vince Wilfork and Santonio Thomas and
linebackers D.J. Williams and McIntosh -- have been sidelined at
times during the preseason.
