CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Virginia on Sunday accepted a bid to the
Continental Tire Bowl and will play Pittsburgh.
Virginia won the inaugural Tire Bowl last season, beating West
Virginia 48-22 in Ericsson Stadium in Charlotte. The Cavaliers
(7-5) earned a trip back by finishing tied for fourth in the
Atlantic Coast Conference.
Pitt (8-4) had to settle for the non-BCS bowl after losing
Saturday night 28-14 to Miami. A Pitt victory would have given the
Panthers a share of their first Big East Conference title and BCS
bowl bid, likely the Orange Bowl.
The Tire Bowl will be Dec. 27. Last year, it drew 73,535 fans -- the largest crowd for a non-BCS bowl.
