Suspect held; Watts in fair condition

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Tucson police have arrested a suspect in the shooting of a University of Arizona football player earlier this month.

Detectives arrested Fabian Martin Flores on Thursday in the shooting of Sheldon Watts during an off-campus party Oct. 10.

Watts, a redshirt freshman from Fresno, Texas, was listed in fair condition Friday at University Medical Center. Recovering from a chest wound, he improved from critical and more recently serious condition.

He was believed to have been an innocent bystander when an argument erupted into gunfire.

Flores, 21, was charged with aggravated assault and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon resulting in a serious physical injury, and bond was set at $250,000.

Investigative leads and anonymous tips led to Flores' arrest at a relative's house, Borboa said.
