Leading receiver to miss Duke game

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Quarterback Chris Rix will start for No. 13 Florida State on Saturday against Duke, but he won't be throwing any passes to the team's leading receiver.

The Seminoles suspended Craphonso Thorpe for the game because the wide receiver has missed too many classes, coach Bobby Bowden said Tuesday. The announcement came one day after Bowden said Rix would reclaim the job as starting quarterback, which he lost six games ago to Wyatt Sexton.

Thorpe has a team-high 31 catches for 361 yards and one
touchdown for the 13th-ranked Seminoles (6-2, 4-2 Atlantic Coast

"You hate to lose anybody, especially somebody with Thorpe's
ability, but when things like that happen you move on to the next
guy," Bowden said.

Dominic Robinson will start in Thorpe's place against Duke.

Rix sprained his right ankle against Clemson on Sept. 25. Sexton
relieved and led Florida State to a win in that game and the next

Sexton was 14 for 30 for 164 yards in a 20-17 loss to Maryland
last Saturday and was relieved by Rix, who went 8-for-21 for 140
yards and a touchdown pass.

Rix, a senior, has started 37 games for Florida State but has
been inconsistent throughout his career with an 0-5 record against
rival Miami.

Also, Bowden said Monday he will replace starting kicker Xavier Beitia on field-goal attempts with freshman Gary
Cismesia. Beitia missed three field goals against Maryland.
