WACO, Texas -- Oklahoma tailback Adrian Peterson tied the NCAA record for most 100-yard rushing games by a freshman with his 10th on Saturday against Baylor.
After running for 83 yards in the first half, Peterson had a
49-yard carry on the first play after halftime. He finished with 240, including three touchdowns in the second half.
Wisconsin's Anthony Davis rushed for more than 100 yards 10
times as a freshman in 2001. Peterson still has two games left, the
Big 12 championship game in two weeks and then a bowl.
Peterson was coming off a season-low 58 yards against Nebraska that snapped his NCAA record streak of nine straight 100-yard games by a freshman.
With more than 1,000 yards in his first seven games, Peterson
matched Emmitt Smith and Marshall Faulk as the quickest to reach
1,000 yards in their careers. North Texas freshman Jamario Thomas
later tied the mark.
