TULSA, Okla. -- Tulsa's Ashlan Davis extended his NCAA record with a fifth kickoff return for a touchdown this season, going 74 yards for a score against Texas-El Paso on Saturday.
Davis fielded a high kick from Reagan Schneider at the 26-yard line and ran right before avoiding Schneider near midfield and running down the left sideline, high-stepping the final few yards for the score.
Davis returned kicks for scores in four consecutive games earlier this season. He had a 100-yard return against Boise State on Oct. 16 and followed it with returns of 94 yards against Nevada, 83 yards against Rice and 96 yards against Southern Methodist the next three weeks. That streak was also an NCAA record.
Before Davis, seven players held the NCAA mark with three kickoff return touchdowns in a season. The NCAA record for kickoff return touchdowns in a career is six, set by Southern California's Anthony Davis from 1972 to 1974.
