32nd annual Bayou Classic moved to Houston

HOUSTON -- The Bayou Classic is coming to Houston.

The 32nd edition of the annual game between Grambling State University and Southern University will be played at Reliant Stadium on Nov. 26, officials announced Friday.

Damage to the Louisiana Superdome because of Hurricane Katrina made it impossible for the game, which has been played there each Thanksgiving weekend since 1976, to continue in New Orleans.

"Canceling the Bayou Classic was never an option," Cydni Bickerstaff, chief executive officer of Bickerstaff Sports &
Entertainment, which manages the event, said in a new release.
"Having this game will show the resiliency of New Orleans and the state of Louisiana."

The game will be televised nationally on NBC.

The weekend will also feature the Battle of the Bands, a Greek
step show and a job fair featuring employment in New Orleans.

Other cities considered for the game included Birmingham, Ala.; Jackson, Miss.; and Shreveport, La.
