Hawaii coach collapses, hospitalized

Hawaii Warriors: Hawaii defensive line coach Vance Singletary was
taken to a local hospital after collapsing in the coaches' booth
during the first half of Saturday night's game against New Mexico
State.

Singletary, 39, was unconscious for several minutes. He was
treated by a fire official in the next booth, regained
consciousness but was disoriented as he was taken away.

Singletary, in his seventh year at Hawaii, is the nephew of
former Chicago Bears linebacker Mike Singletary.

USC Trojans: Reserve tailback and kickoff returner Desmond Reed suffered what appeared to be a season-ending injury during the Trojans' 34-31 victory over Notre Dame on Saturday, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Reed is scheduled to have an MRI exam on Monday.

Temple Owls: Once Bobby Wallace announced he would not be returning as coach next season, athletic director Bill Bradshow said he's received nearly 50 inquires about the position, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

Bradshow did tell the paper that the school is close to retaining the services former Virginia and Notre Dame athletic director Gene Corrigan as a consultant to help in the search.

"We're in a stage where we're gathering information," Bradshaw told the paper. "Next, you have to establish mutual interest. Then, it's face-to-face. It could be handful of finalists, but it's hard to predict. December one is an important date, but we're not locked in.

"The most important thing for us is to get the absolutely best fit for Temple."
